Terms of Service
Last updated September 28, 2026
These terms cover your use of Shelf. By creating an account, you agree to them.
Shelf is in beta
Shelf is invite-only and under active development. Features can change, break, or disappear with less notice than a mature product, and we can't promise uninterrupted access while we're in this phase. We'll try to give you a heads-up before anything disruptive.
Your account
You need to give us an accurate name and email, and you're responsible for keeping your login secure and for what happens under your account. Tell us promptly if you think someone else has access to it.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use Shelf for anything illegal, or to list items you don't have the right to lend.
- Impersonate someone else or misrepresent your relationship to an item, a friend, or a group.
- Scrape, reverse-engineer, or try to access parts of the service you're not authorized to.
- Interfere with the service or attempt to disrupt it for other users.
Your content
You own what you add to your library — titles, descriptions, photos, notes. Adding it gives us the license we need to store it and show it to the friends and groups the app is designed to show it to. If you delete an item or your account, we stop showing it and remove it, as described in ourPrivacy Policy.
Lending is between you and your friends
Shelf connects lenders and borrowers — it doesn't own, insure, condition-check, or guarantee the return of any item. Arrangements to lend or borrow, and any disputes that come up, are between you and the friend or group member you're dealing with. Shelf is never a party to the loan.
Subscriptions and billing
Shelf is free to use on the Free plan, with paid Pro and Circle plans for higher limits and more features — see Pricing for current details. Paid plans are billed on a recurring basis through Stripe. You can cancel anytime from Settings; your plan stays active through the end of the billing period you've already paid for, and we don't offer partial refunds for unused time.
Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time from Settings— see our Privacy Policy for what that removes. We can suspend or terminate an account that violates these terms, misuses the service, or puts other users at risk; where we can, we'll tell you why.
No warranty
Shelf is provided "as is." We work to keep it reliable, but we don't guarantee it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or fit for any particular purpose — and, per the above, we make no guarantee about the condition, availability, or return of anything you lend or borrow through it.
Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, Shelf isn't liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service — including a lost, damaged, or unreturned item. Nothing here limits liability where the law doesn't allow it to be limited.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as Shelf evolves. If a change is material, we'll let you know before it takes effect — by email or an in-app notice.
